१९५८ में लॉस ऐंजेलिस में हुई वो घटना क्या आपको याद है ? हिंदुस्तानी साज बेचनेवाले एक अमेरिकन दुकान में नवयुवक सलिल एक खास संगीत-सितार खरीदने गये और वहाँ उन्होंने उसे बजाकर देखा। उनके सितारवादन से दुकानदार इतने खुश हुए की वोह सितार उन्होंने सलिल चौधरी को उपहार रूप में दे दिया और कहा,"इतने सितार मैंने सुने है लेकिन आपका वादन तो पंडित रविशंकर के श्रेणी का है।" वोह सितार लेके सलिलदा भारत पधारे। फिल्म 'परख' का वो गाना - ओ सजना, बरखा बहार आयी में जो सुर सुननेवाले के दिल को झंकारते हैं, वो सुर उसी वीणा से सलिलदा ने निकाले हुए है।
