जयदेव अगर अपने जिंदगी में केवल एक ही गाने की रचना करते - अल्लाह तेरो नाम, ईश्वर तेरो नाम... और दूसरा कोई संगीत यदि न भी करते, तो भी संगीत प्रेमियों की दिलों के तारे बन जाते। संगीतकार मदन मोहन तो यहाँ तक कहते है कि भारतीय फिल्मों में इससे बढकर कोई भक्तिरचना आजतक बनी नहीं। यह संगीतकार अपने जिंदगी का साथ निभाता चला गया, केवल संगीत को साथ लिए हुए।
संगीत से जयदेव का लगाव, इनका समर्पण इतना गहरा था कि सात सुरों की उपासना के लिए वे दो बार पंजाब से बम्बई भाग आये और जिंदगी भर अविवाहित रहे। वे कई वर्षों तक दिग्गज संगीत-निर्देशक सचिन देव बर्मन और मदन मोहन के सहायक रहे। उन्हें मशहूर सरोदवादक अली अकबर खां से संगीत की शिक्षा मिली। जीवन की अनिश्चितताओं से छुटकरा पाने के लिए जयदेव ने क्या क्या नहीं किया? फिल्मों में अभिनय किया, अल्मोडा जाकर एक नृत्यमंडली में शामिल हुए, ऋषिकेश जाकर स्वामी शिवानंद के आश्रम में जाकर रहे, बैंक में नौकरी की, रेडियो पे गाने गाये। जिंदगी का साथ निभाते चले जयदेव आखिरकार एक संगीतकार बन गये। बचपन में कई उस्तादों से वे शास्त्रीय संगीत की बारिकियाँ सिखे थे ।
जयदेव ने रफी-लता-आशा जैसे दिग्गजों के साथ कई नयी आवाजों को भी, जैसे परवीन सुल्ताना, छाया गांगुली, भूपेन्द्र, रूना लैला, दिलराज कौर, येशुदास, हरिहरन, मीनू पुरुषोत्तम, पीनाज मसानी, मौके देकर उनका सफल प्रयोग किया। शास्त्रीय संगीत हमेशा इनका बुनियादी आधार रहा और सुरीलापन अंतिम प्रभाव। यही कारण है, केवल चालीस फिल्मों में संगीत देनेवाले जयदेव तीन बार राष्ट्रिय पुरस्कार से नवाजे गए।

He made it possible for up-and-coming vocalists to render their vocal skills in movies. Listening to Jayadeva's music brings calm to our chaotic world, but Jayadev also spent some time in Swami Sivananda's ashram in Rishikesh to find calm for his restless heart. According to his abilities and skills, he did not achieve success or fame. His work became well-known as a result, but his identity and face are less known.
