  संगीतकार रवि ने फिल्म इंडस्ट्री में कदम रखा था एक गायक बनने के लिए और इसके लिए आधा पेट खाली रहते हुए उन्होंने कई दिन तक संघर्ष किया लेकिन किस्मत ने इन्हें संगीतकार बना दिया। चूँकि इनका हिंदी बडा अच्छा था, हेमंतकुमार ने उन्हें अपने असिस्टेंट के रूप में रख लिया। फिल्म नागिन का लता जी ने अपने मधुर स्वर में गाया हुआ वो गाना 'मन डोले मेरा तन डोले' जो बिन की धून कल्याणजी ने हार्मोनियम और क्लॅहूलाईन इन दो साजों को प्रयोग करते हुए हुबहू बजाई है, उसकी मूल कल्पना रवि की ही थी। हेमंत कुमार उनके प्रतिभा को परख चुके थे और वे चाहते थे की रवि स्वतंत्र रूप से संगीत दें, इसलिए उन्होंने रवि को ब्रेक दे दिया। अब जब पानी में गिर ही गए तो रवि की प्रतिभा कई गुना निखर आई।

 रवि ऐसे संगीतकार थे जो एक गीत के लिए कई धुनें बनाते थे। फिल्म गुमराह का वो गीत - 'चलो इक बार फिर से' के लिए उन्होंने ३१ धुनें बनायी। पार्श्वगायक महेंद्र कपूर के साथ इनकी जोडी खूब जमी और दोनों ने मिलकर कुछ कामयाब और लोकप्रिय गीतों का निर्माण किया।
