मराठी TO ENGLISH शब्दमाला – भाग 23

विज्ञान जसे जसे प्रगत होत जाते तसे तसे नवीन नवीन शब्द तयार होत जातात. त्यामुळे इंग्रजी भाषेत दरवर्षी शेकडो नव्या शब्दांची भर पडत असते.केवळ शब्दार्थ मांडण्यापेक्षा मराठी शब्दसमूहाचा भावार्थ व्यक्त करणारे काही निवडक इंग्रजी शब्द ह्या शब्दमालेत दिलेले आहेत. प्रत्येकी दहा शब्दांचा (words, phrase or idiom) समावेश असलेल्या मराठी-इंग्रजी शब्दमालेचा हा भाग - 23 .

▪ संस्कारहीन = ill-bred, ill-mannered
I will not sing devotional songs in front of ill-bred audience. संस्कारहीन प्रेक्षकांसमोर मी भक्तिगीते म्हणणार नाही.

▪ ठिसूळ = friable
The friable volcanic soil is extraordinarily fertile. ज्वालामुखीच्या उद्रेकातून निर्माण झालेली ठिसूळ माती अतिशय सुपीक असते.

▪ झटका दिल्यासारखे खेचणे = to yank
I yanked the telephone away from his hands. मी त्याच्या हातातून टेलेफोन खेचून घेतला.

▪ संभाषणात अचानक भाग घेणे = to chime in
I also chimed in when the conversation turned to reincarnation. संभाषण पुनर्जन्माकडे वळले तेव्हा मीही संभाषणात उडी घेतली.

▪ खरडपट्टी काढणे = to chide
Our doctor chides us severely if someone doesn't wear a mask. कोणी मास्क नाही घातला की आमचे डॉक्टर चांगलीच खरडपट्टी काढतात.

▪ मनातून नाराज असलेला = ill-disposed
People of Ladakh are ill-disposed towards the Chinese government. लडाखमधील जनता चीनी सरकारबद्दल प्रतिकूल आहे.
- Syn: disagreeable, unfavorable

▪ संग्रहालयाचा प्रमुख = curator
"This is the mirror Napoleon used," the curator said. "हा नेपोलियन वापरत असलेला आरसा, " पुराणवस्तुसंग्रहालयाचा प्रमुख म्हणाला.

▪ दुर्मिळ संग्राह्य वस्तू = curio
My grandfather's metal box is full of art pieces and curios from 15th and 16th century. माझ्या आजोबांकडे असलेली धातूची पेटी १५ व्या आणि १६व्या शतकातील कलात्मक आणि दुर्मिळ संग्राह्य वस्तुंनी भरलेली आहे.

▪ कपड्यांशी संबंधित = sartorial
The princess is downright gorgeous and always carries herself with sartorial elegance. राजकुमारी भलतीच आकर्षक आहे आणि नेहेमीच दिमाखदार कपड्यांमध्ये मिरवत असते.

▪ रवंथ करणे, सारखा विचार करणे = to ruminate
The scene of cows ruminating in the afternoon under the shade of a tree is so beautiful. दुपारच्या वेळी झाडाच्या सावलीत रवंथ करणाऱ्या गायींचे दृश्य किती मनोहर दिसते!
