मराठी TO ENGLISH शब्दमाला – भाग 29

धनुष्यातून निघालेला बाण, चालू क्षण आणि तोंडातून निघालेला शब्द परत घेता येत नाही पण लिहिलेला शब्द मात्र edit करून बदलता येतो आणि लिहिण्यामुळे वाचण्यापेक्षा अधिक लक्षात राहते, म्हणून लिहिण्याची सवय असावी! केवळ शब्दार्थ मांडण्यापेक्षा मराठी शब्दसमूहाचा भावार्थ व्यक्त करणारे काही निवडक इंग्रजी शब्द ह्या शब्दमालेत दिलेले आहेत. प्रत्येकी दहा शब्दांचा (words, phrase or idiom) समावेश असलेल्या मराठी-इंग्रजी शब्दमालेचा हा भाग - 29.

▪ भडकावून देणे, चिथावणे = to instigate
Armenians say the conflict was instigated by Azerbaijan. आर्मिनियावासी म्हणतात की युद्ध अझरबैजानने भडकवले होते.
- Syn: to provoke, to stir up

▪ सरळ नसलेला (मनाने वा कशानेही) = devious
A woman and her daughter hatched a devious scheme to get rid of their new rival. एका स्त्रीने व तिच्या मुलीने त्यांच्या नवीन प्रतिस्पर्ध्याला मार्गातून दूर करण्यासाठी एक कुटील कट आखला.
- Syn: unfair, deceitful

▪ नावडणाऱ्या व्यक्तीच्या एखाद्या गुणाची वाखाणणी करणे = give the devil his due
She is quite whimsical, but give the devil his due, she keeps her house and garden very neat and clean. ती फार लहरी आहे, पण तिचं एक मानलं पाहिजे, आपले घर आणि बगीचा ती अतिशय नीटनेटके आणि स्वच्छ ठेवते.

▪ झोप आणणारे = soporific
Don't add too much of nutmeg into the basundi, it is soporific. बासुंदीमध्ये जास्त जायफळ टाकू नको, त्याने झोप येते.
- Syn: sedative, narcotic

▪ नखरेल = coquettish
The audience were held spellbound by her seductive eyes and coquettish voice. तिचे मोहक डोळे आणि नखरेल आवाज ह्यामुळे सर्व प्रेक्षक जागेवर खिळून राहिले.

▪ हार्दिक सलोखा = cordiality
Ambassador of the enemy must be treated with cordiality. शत्रूच्या दूताला सलोख्याचीच वागणूक मिळाली पाहिजे.

▪ मनावर बिंबवणे = to instill
Humanitarian values are instilled in the boys of Gurukula right from their childhood. मानवी मूल्यांचे संस्कार गुरुकुलातील मुलांवर अगदी लहानपणापासूनच केले जातात.

▪ नावडती वस्तू वा व्यक्ती = anathema
Vaccination is anathema to kids. लसीकरण म्हणजे लहान मुलांची नावडती गोष्ट.

▪ अचानक चमकणारा प्रकाश = flare
These flares in the sky announce the arrival of circus in our town. आकाशात चमकणाऱ्या ह्या प्रकाशशलाका आपल्या गावात आलेल्या सर्कशीचे निदर्शक आहेत.

▪ टस्सल = stand off
The political stand-off will continue untill the majority will be achieved. बहुमत जमेपर्यंत हा राजकीय संघर्ष चालू राहील.
