केवळ शब्दार्थ मांडण्यापेक्षा मराठी शब्दसमूहाचा भावार्थ व्यक्त करणारे काही निवडक इंग्रजी शब्द ह्या शब्दमालेत दिलेले आहेत. प्रत्येकी दहा शब्दांचा (words, phrase or idiom) समावेश असलेल्या मराठी-इंग्रजी शब्दमालेचा हा भाग - 25 .

▪ कुटुंबातील स्त्री प्रमुख = matriarch
Anandibai, the patriarch of Peshwa family, killed her nephew Narayanrao by concocting a plot against him. पेशवे घराण्यातील प्रमुख स्त्री आनंदीबाई हिने आपला पुतण्या नारायणराव ह्याला एक कट आखून ठार मारले.

▪ कुटुंबातील पुरुष प्रमुख = patriarch
The patriarch died, leaving behind millions of dollars to be inherited by his wife. आपल्या पत्नीसाठी करोडो डॉलर्सचा वारसा मागे ठेऊन कुटुंबप्रमुखाचे निधन झाले.

▪ ज्येष्ठ व्यवस्थापिका = matron
The matron of our nursing hostel is very strict about in and out timings. आमच्या परिचारिका वसतिगृहाची व्यवस्थापिका येण्या-जाण्याच्या वेळांविषयी फारच कडक आहे.

▪ खंडणीसाठी ओलीस ठेवणे = to hold someone to ransom
The hackers have held our server to ransom to the tune of fifty thousand dollars. हॅकर्सनी आमचा संगणक पन्नास हजार डॉलर्सच्या खंडणीसाठी अडकवून ठेवला आहे.

▪ दैवी इच्छेने ठरलेले/ नेमलेले = ordained
He was ordained the church’s pastor at the age of four and at the age of six he gave his first sermon. वयाच्या चौथ्या वर्षी चर्चच्या पाद्रीपदावर त्याची नेमणूक झाली आणि वयाच्या सहाव्या वर्षी त्याने पहिले प्रवचन दिले.

▪ वेळ वाया घालवणे = to dilly-dally, to shilly-shally
People who are not serious about life, spend more than half of their lifetime dilly-dallying. जे लोक जीवनाबद्दल गंभीर नाहीत ते आपल्या आयुष्याचा अर्धाअधिक वेळ वाया घालवतात.
- Syn: to hum and haw, to drag one's feet

▪ स्वतःबद्दल अवास्तव माहिती देऊन फसवणारा = charlatan
The fortune teller who came in Toyota, turned out to be a charlatan. टोयोटातनं आलेला तो ज्योतिषी बाताड्या निघाला.
- Syn: mountebank, humbug

▪ कामातील हयगय = dereliction of duty
The manager was sent on imposed leave for two months for dereliction of duty. कामातील हायगयीबद्दल व्यवस्थापकाला दोन महिन्यांच्या सक्तीच्या रजेवर पाठवण्यात आले.

▪ हृदयभग्न = heartbroken
Shakuntala became heartbroken when Dushyant failed to recognize her. दुष्यन्तने न ओळखल्याने शकुंतला व्यथित झाली.
- Syn: grief-stricken, dejected, aggrieved

▪ कडक शिक्षा वा प्रताडन करणे = to chastise
All the team members chastised the fielder for letting the ball down. संघातील सर्व खेळाडूंनी चेंडू सोडून दिल्याबद्दल क्षेत्ररक्षकाची खरडपट्टी केली.
