मराठी TO ENGLISH शब्दमाला – भाग 8

   वाङ्मयाच्या बागेतील शब्द ही फुले. त्यांचे विविध रंग आणि विविध छटा.केवळ शब्दार्थ मांडण्यापेक्षा मराठी शब्दसमूहाचा भावार्थ व्यक्त करणारे काही निवडक इंग्रजी शब्द ह्या शब्दमालेत दिलेले आहेत. प्रत्येकी दहा शब्दांचा (words, phrase or idiom) समावेश असलेल्या मराठी-इंग्रजी शब्दमालेचा हा भाग - 8 .

 

  ▪ एखाद्या गोष्टीची जाणीव असलेला = cognizant, cognisant 

 Consumers are cognizant about the harmful effects of 5G technology. 5G तंत्रज्ञानाच्या दुष्परिणामांची ग्राहकांना जाणीव आहे. 

 ▪ शब्दकोशाची निर्मिती करणारा = lexicographer 

 Samuel Johnson, the first English lexicographer, took seven years to complete his work. मूळ आद्य इंग्रजी शब्दकोशकार, सॅम्युअल जॉन्सन याला आपले काम संपवायला सात वर्षे लागली. 

 ▪ झिंगलेला = inebriated 

 When inebriated, a person has every bit of information about the world except himself. झिंगलेल्या माणसाला सर्व जगाबद्दल बारीकसारीक माहिती असते, स्वतःबद्दल सोडून. - Syn: intoxicated, soaked through 

 ▪ संवादाचे माध्यम = liaison 

 Mr. Dube is working as a liaison between the Prime Minister and common public. श्री. दुबे हे पंतप्रधान आणि सामान्य जनता ह्यांमधील संवादाचे माध्यम म्हणून काम पाहतात. 

 ▪ अघटित होईल अशी भीती = sense of foreboding 

 He felt a sense of foreboding as he climbed on board the Titanic. टायटॅनिकवर चढल्यानंतर त्याला काहीतरी वाईट होईल अशी भीती चाटून गेली.

▪ हवेत लटकणे = to dangle 

 During Diwali, you can see so many lanterns dangling in the houses. दिवाळीच्या काळात तुम्हाला घराघरांमध्ये अनेक आकाशकंदील लटकलेले दिसतील. 

 ▪ कर्कश किंवा गदागदा हलवणारा = jarring 

 It was a bone-jarring journey up a rugged track. ओबडधोबड रस्त्यावरून केलेला हाडं खिळखिळे करणारा तो प्रवास होता. 

 ▪ चाकोरीबद्ध जीवन = rut 

 Come out of your rut and look at nature. तुझ्या चाकोरीबद्ध जीवनातून बाहेर नीघ आणि निसर्गाकडे बघ. - Syn: monotonous routine 

 ▪ एखाद्याची पर्वा न करणारा = cavalier 

 Trump is widely criticized for his cavalier attitude towards his fellow men. आपल्या सहकाऱ्यांची पर्वा ना करण्याच्या वृत्तीमुळे ट्रम्प ह्यांच्यावर खूप टीका होते. - Syn: high-handed 

 ▪ दारू न पिणारा किंवा दारूचा अंमल उतरलेला = sober 

 Some people are wild when they are sober and gentle when drunk. काही लोक दारूचा अंमल नसताना बेफाम असतात आणि नशा चढली की सभ्य होतात.
