'शब्दांवाचून कळले सारे शब्दांच्या पलीकडले' हे सांगायलादेखील शब्दच लागतात! केवळ शब्दार्थ मांडण्यापेक्षा मराठी शब्दसमूहाचा भावार्थ व्यक्त करणारे काही निवडक इंग्रजी शब्द ह्या शब्दमालेत दिलेले आहेत. प्रत्येकी दहा शब्दांचा (words, phrase or idiom) समावेश असलेल्या मराठी-इंग्रजी शब्दमालेचा हा भाग - 18.
▪ जाळीदार = latticed
The rooftops have been latticed to prevent the entry of pigeons. कबुतरांना आत यायला मज्जाव व्हावा यासाठी गच्चीवर जाळ्या लावण्यात आल्या आहेत.
▪ कलहाचे कारण = casus belli
The territory of Kashmir is the casus belli behind seven-decade-old clash between India and Pakistan. काश्मीरचा प्रदेश हा गेले सात दशकांपासून भारत-पाकमध्ये चाललेल्या कलहाचे कारण बनलेला आहे.
▪ तिरक्या नजरेने पाहणे = to cast a sheep's eye at
Don't cast the sheep's eye at me; I am not gonna comment on your funny dress today. माझ्याकडे असे तिरक्या नजरेने बघू नकोस; आज मी तुझ्या विचित्र पोषाखाबद्दल काहीही बोलणार नाहीये.
▪ भरकटत जाणारे = excursive
The lecture was excellent but it was too excursive at the end. व्याख्यान खूपच सुंदर होते पण शेवटी शेवटी फारच भरकटत गेले.
▪ वरिष्ठांची केलेली अवज्ञा = insubordination
If an employee refuses to comply with the policy, it will be treated as insubordination. जर कामगार ठरलेल्या धोरणानुसार वागला नाही तर ती वरिष्ठांची केलेली अवज्ञा असे मानण्यात येईल.
▪ वाङ्मयचौर्य = plagiarism
More than 90% of matter on the internet is plagiarism, both text and images. इंटरनेटवरील ९० टक्क्यांपेक्षा अधिक माहिती ही वाङ्मयचौर्य असते, शाब्दिक आणि चित्रं, दोन्ही.

▪ आत्मविश्वासाचा अभाव असलेला = diffident
The Kenyan team looked diffident in their debut match but went on winning the remaining four. आपल्या पहिल्या सामन्यात केनियाची टीम आत्मविश्वास गमावलेली वाटली पण नंतरचे चारही सामने त्यांनी जिंकले.
▪ भीतीने कच खाणारा = craven
These faint slogans enunciate diffident troops of a craven king. ह्या विरत चाललेल्या घोषणा कच खाणाऱ्या राजाच्या आत्मविश्वास गमावलेल्या सैन्याचे द्योतक आहे.
▪ खेळकर आणि खोडकर = elfish
I would love to see you in playful elfish mood again, not a serious one. मी तुला पुन्हा खेळकर आणि खोडकर चित्तवृत्तीमध्ये बघू इच्छितो, गंभीर नाही.
