"The third world war has started... But it is not between man and man but between man and a virus called Corona COVID-19."

'HOT DAYS, COLD NIGHTS' – this is the most favorable climate for the proliferation of influenza viruses but Corona virus COVID-19 doesn't seem to bother to follow this standard rule. WHO has declared that soon it may take the form of a pandemic with the toll of new infected cases arising from different locations of the planet.

But DON'T PANIC! Taken proper precautions, Corona virus COVID-19 CAN BE controlled and even, eliminated effectively.

CORONA VIRUS COVID-19 IS NOT THAT LETHAL AS IT IS PROJECTED!

   Go through the following statistics:

   1. As of today, the mortality rate of Corona virus COVID-19 is 3.4%. That means, out of every 100 infected cases, 96.6 are GETTING CURED. Isn't that relieving a bit against the backdrop of what the media is projecting worldwide?

   2. Of the total deaths, 85% are above 70 years of age. So, if you are below 70, your chance of dying is just 0.5%. This is substantially less than previous deadly influenza epidemics the world has seen in the previous century.

   3. Mortality is expected to be high in urban areas among the folks who suffer from diabetes, hypertension or any other life threatening conditions. So, if you reside away from the urban area, in a less polluted environment; the risk of death from Coronavirus COVID-19 significantly decreases and the chance of recovery increases substantially.

    4. The incubation period (time from exposure to the development of symptoms) of the Corona virus COVID-19 is estimated to be between 2 and 14 days which depends upon the immunity status of your body. In contrast to the incubation periods of other seasonal influenza viruses (which is not more than 5 days, average 2 days) this is very long. This means, if you take good precautionary measures, your immunity gets enough time to override the demon.

PECULIARITY OF CORONA VIRUS COVID-19 OVER OTHER RESPIRATORY VIRUSES

Although the respiratory system is the initial target system and the lung is the final target organ of Corona virus COVID-19, it differs from the other influenza viruses in that, it DOESN'T ELICIT typical cold symptoms like sneezing, runny nose and sore throat. It TYPICALLY causes dry cough, shortness of breath and fever. 20% of the total affected require hospitalization and oxygen.

WHICH MASK IS THE BEST?

A layperson is generally unaware of the facts related to the masks which are available in the market. Let us throw some light on this compelling issue which has created an acute shortage of masks in the market.

Please note that there doesn't exist a mask in the world which would fully protect you from the viruses. There are a few reasons. First of all, the FFP2 and N95 masks which are regarded as the best quality masks, can filter the air up to 95%, not fully. N95 mask can filter particles up to 0.3 μm in size and not smaller than that. The COVID-19 measures 0.1 μm in size and it can easily move across the N95. Secondly, there always exist gaps between the nose and cheeks even after applying the mask, which cannot prevent the access of microbes into your respiratory system. Third reason is that, virus and bacteria can easily gain access into the nose through the aqueous humor which forms a layer on the cornea. How much are you going to protect yourself?

The best solution to this problem is to use a mask prepared from any washable cloth, preferably cotton cloth. Unlike, N95 or surgical masks, it can be reused again and again and is extremely cost-effective. It is mandatory for the patient to use this mask as he is the one who spreads the microorganisms in the air. It is also beneficial for the healthy individual to wear a mask to prevent the entry of these microorganisms into his body. Keep a distance of 5-6 feet from the person who is coughing or sneezing. It is not enough to use just the mask alone. We need to use alcohol based hand sanitizer to clean our hands frequently along with the air purifying spray, as described below.

ANTIVIRAL MEDICINES WITH HIGHEST CURE RATE

We all know viruses do not respond to antibiotics and there are some home remedies which have time and again proved their effectiveness in preventive as well as curative spheres.

PREVENTIVE MEDICINES

  a. Honey + Lemon in Water: History still stands witness to the fact how the post WW-I influenza epidemics and London influenza epidemic of 1931 was effectively brought under control by the intake of Lemon juice which originated this saying: A lemon a day keeps influenza away. Added honey to it, its antiviral properties get boosted up significantly.

When lemons are not available, dried Amla powder is a good substitute due to its high Vitamin C content. We must not forget, vitamin C and zinc increases immunity.

   Organic Honey, Amla Powder

b. Garlic with Turmeric: Some of the best antiviral and antibacterial chemicals of the medicinal world are jam-packed in garlic and turmeric. A combination of Garlic + Turmeric + Sprouted mung has been found to combat most of the infectious diseases. The paste can be applied locally and it can be taken internally, as well.

 c. Burning Dhoop Incense: In a crowded place like hospitals or schools, it is a very good idea to burn dhoop incense or camphor as the fumes emitted from doop or camphor kill microbes and purify the environment. You can also mix a few drops of eucalyptus oil in the water and spray the solution in the air, on the curtains and furniture etc.          Dhoop incense

CURATIVE MEDICINES

   a. Echinacea Q: There is no rival to Echinacea when the viral infection gives rise to severe fever and bodyache. Almost every viral infection responds to Echinacea and there is no reason why Coronavirus COVID-19 shouldn't respond to it when the situation demands. In mother tincture form, the doses of Echinacea Q is 8-10 drops in half cup of water 3 times a day.

   b. Aspidosperma Q: Aspidosperma is a lung tonic par excellence. Have a look at its image – the doctrine of signature is perfectly valid here. The bifold fruit of Aspidosperma looks like trachea with two lungs attached. Aspidosperma Q increases the oxygen content of blood by stimulating respiratory center. This is evident by the feeling of freshness one gets after taking this drug. The dose is similar to that of Echinacea, 8-10 drops in half cup of water 3 times a day. You can add a drop of Eucalyptus oil to it to potentiate the effect of Aspidosperma.

How Long Can a Corona Virus Survive in Air at Standard Room Temperatures?

Reports coming from different sources do not agree over this. Some say that COVID-19 cannot live more than 12 hours in the atmosphere while some scientists have observed that cold and dampness favors the growth and survival of the COVID-19. The lower the room temperature and the more the humidity, the shorter the life span of Corona COVID-19 virus.
At lower temperature like 4-5°C, the virus can remain alive on the furniture, metal surface etc for up to 4 weeks.
At routine room temperatures of air conditioning which is around 24°C, the virus can survive for 2 weeks.
At higher temperatures of >40°C, the virus remains viable for 1 week, with the average life-span being 9 days.

In Wuhan, China, when the virus spread rapidly in January and February, the temperature was around 8-10°C and humidity 75%, a perfect combination for the growth of COVID-19.

Although there is no sense in why we should be scared of Corona, it doesn't mean that we should not take precautions. We must take Certain Basic Precautions like-

   1. Educating the public, preventing them from spitting in public places
   2. Using easy-to-wash reusable cotton masks
   3. Making the atmosphere germ-free by burning incense, camphor or spraying eucalyptus oil (in water) on frequently used things
   4. Using alcohol based hand sanitizer to clean hands frequently. (Here, too, the use of sanitizer is questionable because once applied, sanitizer vanishes in 4-5 seconds and the virus requires at least 20-30 seconds of contact with the disinfectant in order to die.)
   5. Keep a distance of 5-6 feet minimum from the person who sneezes or coughs
   6. Avoiding mass gatherings as far as possible
   7. Keeping immunity 'high' by consuming vitamin C and Zinc rich food
   8. Allowing plenty of sun to enter the rooms
   9. By exercising regularly early in the morning everyday.
