Words are like flowers. Some blossom perennially while others in a particular season. Some are fragrant while a few others are offensive. Depending on how frequently the words appear, they could be classified into three main categories:

  1. Commonly used words, like - apple, boy, flower, tree and so on that we all know.

  2. Moderately used words, like - crescent, elusive,
fortuitous, perceptible, reiterate, oriental, profound, listless, momentous, suffuse, excavate, destitution and so on.

  3. Rarely used words, like -  obsequious, palindrome, ca boodie, opprobrium, picayune, rotisserie, reveille, brougham, bumptious, conchie, coterminous, rallentando and so on.

Moderately used words or phrases could again further be classified or graded depending on their frequency of appearance in the newspapers, books or websites. There are various tools on the internet which can simplify this job for us. Thus, moderately used words could be graded as Grade I, Grade II and Grade III words. Grade I are most frequently written moderately used words, Grade III are least frequently found moderately used words, and Grade II in between.

Advanced students are always interested in rarely used words, but most of the readers like me, who focus mainly on moderately used words.

I thought the excerpts from my self-study could be informative as well as entertaining for many others, hence I have decided to write them under the page 'WayWord'.
