In physics, there is a term – the center of gravity. This is the point in an object where the whole weight of the object is supposed to be concentrated and if you apply force to that point, the whole object will move. I was thinking hard whether there is a single factor in the human body system, which, when taken care of, would expel most of the disorders including obesity. In my opinion, this point is on everybody’s tongue and if kept under command, will solve our multiple problems. I also felt, to be honest, checking this point can also solve many problems the world is facing today. A man’s tongue……aha! The softest yet the sharpest weapon on this earth, the never tiring gadget given to everyone, an epicure organ which can consume sweets and produce poison, can be a boon to the self as well as others or a curse to all, if not used conscientiously.

Disorders related to obesity

As far as health is concerned, a tongue is a starting station and as far as human life is concerned, food comes first and luxury afterwards. So, in all possible situations and events, tongue the must be bridled first. But there is a big problem. If not checked, it produces hazards, we all know it. And if checked, it backfires with a hell of unsatisfied demands! But there is a solution to it, a very simple solution. The tongue has defeated many stalwarts and philosophers so far, they never tried this.

   Tongue Moves the World Economy!

The number one best-selling books on the market are food recipe books and number two are dieting and weight-loss books, number three are medicine books and the indispensable giant pharmaceutical industry that follows invariably. This is how the tongue moves the economy. Life begins with food. Everyone right from your puppy at home to an astronaut in a spaceship requires food. The primitive man used to search for food while the modern man is searching for ways to keep away from food. Abundance is the blessing of nature given to mankind which is, unfortunately, over-exploited by man.

  True Appetite vs False Appetite

The word ‘appetite’ can have diverse connotations. It could be real hunger, it could be a genuine requirement of the body, it could be just a craving or a penchant or a momentary urge or even greed. Here, the trick is to develop an ability to differentiate between true appetite and false appetite. True appetite is where your body indeed needs food, decidedly and categorically. A false appetite is when your pampered palatal  organ impels and compels you to search for food to satisfy its hankering. This is false appetite where food is not legitimately required by the body, no ifs and buts, no strings attached, no fine print. Genuinely required food generates healthy energy, extraneous food generates surplus calories and engenders obesity. The real food appeases appetite and dishes out satisfaction while nonessential food induces a queer craving which is often insatiable and unsatisfactory. After the intake of essential food, the mind works in order, after superfluous food, it runs amok. Please note that the food that is eaten just to satisfy the craving need not be necessarily junk food, it could also be regular healthy food which could also be harmful. Essential food gives healthy sleep, non-essential type produces abnormal sleep, less or excess.

The ultimate solution to get over this problem involves two steps:
1.     Differentiating between true appetite and false deceptive appetite
2.    Overcoming binge or craving crisis

Differentiating Between True Hunger and False Hunger

True hunger is the normal appetite and false hunger is a craving. If you are unable to differentiate between these two, try this small experiment. When the desire for food knocks, don’t rush to your kitchen right away. Wait a bit. Breathe deeply. Wait up to twenty minutes. If the desire was real, it will remain as it was, if it was just an itchy craving, it will pass away. It is so simple. If you are still not sure, wait for further twenty minutes, breathe deep. The solution will surface by itself.

Overcoming the Binge or Craving Crisis

While you try to practice to differentiate between true and false eating desire, you will encounter a demon called binge or craving crisis. This demon must be blown away once and for all so that he doesn’t ever bother you again. This is where your patience and determination is tested. What is a craving crisis? This is a bout of intense psychological conflict that arises when you try to shift over to healthier habits. This is momentary but cyclonic. Consider it a good sign as this indicates your old habits are running out of the house. Before leaving, they will torment you and try to kick you hard. You have to enjoy the battle. Lest you succumb to their pressure and you give in to the call of your refrigerator, you will be left repenting and left with no option but to start over again. If you stay put during the crisis, the everlasting benefit is certain to follow. This is a golden rule. The frequency of the binges will be high initially, for a few days. Once you have passed through the dark tunnel, you will never feel like backing up your old obsessive or obsessive habits.

How to Know You are Safeguarded against the Crisis?

You would like to know whether you are out of the danger zone or not. Go through the following list:  Cheeseburger, Reuben sandwich, Hot dogs, Philly cheese steak, Nachos, Chicago-style pizza, Delmonico’s steak, Blueberry cobbler, Chocolate-chip cookies, Green chili stew, Po’ boy, Frito pie, Apple pie, Barbecue ribs, Indian fry bread, Buffalo wings, Lobster rolls, S’mores, Mexican flat enchiladas, New England clam chowder, Fried chicken and waffles, Peanut butter sandwich, Fortune cookies, Cioppino, Potato chips, Maryland crabcakes, Macaroni and cheese, Grits, California roll, Wild Alaska salmon, Fajita, Twinkies….
